Long Term Conditions

Our Practice nurses specialise in managing long term conditions and run clinics to cover diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure and other heart conditions, stroke, asthma and COPD. They are experienced in prevention advice, cardiovascular risk assessment and diagnosis and management of these conditions. Patients recorded as having these conditions will be called in regularly for a review, but anyone can book an appointment if they have concerns or would like advice in any of these areas.

Practice nurse appointments and routine telephone consultations may be booked at reception. Routine appointments may have up to a 4 week wait, but the Practice Nurses have urgent appointments and telephone consultations available that can be accessed via the GP telephone triage service.

The healthcare assistants (HCAs) are an integral part of the team, carrying out many of the blood and urine tests required for monitoring of long term conditions. They do the new patient checks, NHS health checks and many of the blood pressure reviews.

Postnatal care is also undertaken by the midwives, in liaison with the GPs. The GPs offer a post-natal check 6 weeks after delivery.

Minor Surgery

Several of the doctors carry out minor surgical procedures – mainly joint injections and removal of lumps and bumps. The receptionists will be happy to advise you which doctors you should see for this service.

You will need to make an initial appointment with the doctor so that the doctor can assess the problem and advise whether a minor surgical procedure is appropriate.

Please note that we follow Bristol CCG's guidelines regarding NHS funding of minor surgical procedures.   For conditions not deemed appropriate for NHS treatment, we are able to direct you to an alternative private service.

Treatment Room Services

The majority of Treatment Room services are provided on an appointment basis.   At the request of a doctor or Practice nurse, treatment room nurses take blood samples, process urine and swab tests, perform ear washouts and conduct some other simple investigations.

For urgent blood tests, the Treatment Room does operate a walk-in service 08.40am - 11.30am Monday to Friday.   Take a numbered token from outside the Treatment Room and wait for your number to be called.

Treatment room nurses also deal with minor injuries, leg ulcers, dressings and post-operative stitch removal.  If you are in need of these services, please book an appointment with reception; it is not necessary to see a doctor first.

Cervical smears and childhood immunisations are also delivered by Treatment Room Nurses.  Appointments can be booked with Reception; again it is not necessary to see a doctor first.

The Treatment Room offers appointments for NHS travel immunisations on Thursday afternoons.  Appointments can be booked at reception.

The Treatment Room opening hours are:

  • Monday to Thursday 08:50 – 12 and 14:00 – 17:00
